$4 million investment in Port River rail bridge
The future of train services on the Outer Harbor line has been secured with a $4 million investment to upgrade the Port River rail bridge in the 2015-16 Mid-Year Budget Review (MYBR).
“The Outer Harbor rail line is busy and crosses the Port River Bridge between the Ethelton and Port Adelaide stations,” Mr Mullighan said.
“The bridge was built in 1910 and was reaching the end of its life.
“This 2015-16 MYBR commitment will ensure the future of the bridge for another 75 years, by repairing the concrete piers and replacing the steel girders.
“This work will complement the $600,000 spent replacing the timber sleepers, repairing the tracks on the bridge and for some minor repairs to steel work, which was completed last month.”
Weather permitting, the Port River Bridge works are scheduled to be completed early in 2017.
