Solar panels to be installed on 400 housing trust homes

Solar panels will be installed on up to 400 housing trust homes as part of the drive towards a sustainable low carbon future for our city. The solar panel scheme will be piloted on 200 new homes being built in Adelaide's suburbs and 200 houses in the CBD, and may be expanded to a range of new public housing.

This will provide a valuable boost to SA solar panel suppliers and installers, as well as supporting jobs for South Australians.

Deputy Premier John Rau said Renewal SA will pilot a solar panel scheme on 200 new homes being built in the suburbs and will install a further 200 solar systems in the CBD.

The installation of solar panels on up to 200 Housing Trust homes in the CBD will make a major contribution towards making Adelaide carbon neutral, and benefit tenants who will see savings in their annual electricity bills of at least $150.

The program will use funds from the $65 million public housing package announced in the State Budget.
