Cost of Living Concession

Over the last year a number of local residents have contacted my office concerned with the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, and the Federal Government’s cuts to concession payments.

The State Government will protect pensioners and low-income earners in Lee by providing a new Cost of Living Concession to help with everyday expenses.

The new Cost of Living Concession will come into effect from 1 July 2015 and will paid directly to households to assist with everyday payments, including council rates, electricity, water and gas bills.

The new concession will provide the following support to households:

  • $200 to pensioners and low-income earners who own their own home,

  • $100 to pensioners and low-income earners who are tenants,

  • $100 for self-funded retirees who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.

I understand the cost of living pressure you and many older South Australians face, which is why I have been working to deliver the new Cost of Living Concession.

The Cost of Living Concession replaces the council rate concession and will benefit more than 205,000 households across South Australia.

All other State Government concessions remain the same.
