STATE BUDGET 2016/17: $10 million to support females in sport
The State Labor Government wants our sports clubs to have safe, appropriate and modern facilities, to ensure they can be enjoyed by all South Australians.
That’s why the 2016-17 State Budget includes $10 million to build and upgrade female change rooms.
There are approximately 150,000 girls and women registered with SA sporting clubs.
But concerns have been raised about a lack of appropriate change facilities. Many women’s sports teams are currently forced to use male change rooms, car parks, offices or other areas at sports grounds.
Female players should have access to exactly the same level of facilities as boys and men - whether they are playing junior sports or competing at an elite level.
Interest in traditionally male-dominated sports, such as cricket and soccer, is growing and this Budget measure is expected to boost participation rates further.
We want to encourage people of all ages to be fit and healthy, and that means investing in our clubs so that girls and women stay in the sports they love.
